We're so pleased with the results.

Loft boarded on raised legs, hatch made bigger and new easy access ladder fitted - the guys arrived nice and early and had the job done by the afternoon without any mess or fuss. We now have an extra room in the house for a fraction of the price of a full loft conversion. Highly recommeded!!!!

Transforming a Family Home with Loft Boarding

Transforming a Family Home with Loft Boarding

Client Overview:

A growing family in a suburban home needed extra storage space to accommodate their expanding household. With children, seasonal items, and general household goods taking up valuable space, the family was looking for a solution that wouldn't compromise their living area.

The Challenge:

The family's loft had previously been left unused. They needed a professional solution to safely board the loft, ensuring it could support a significant amount of storage without compromising the structural integrity of the home.

Our Solution:

CB Lofts conducted a thorough assessment of the property to determine the best course of action. Our team installed high-quality loft boarding, ensuring the space was safe and stable for storing heavy items. We also added a new loft hatch and ladder system for easy, secure access to the space.

The Result:

The family now has a safe, accessible, and organised storage solution, freeing up valuable space in the rest of the home. The project was completed on time and within budget, with the family thrilled by the added functionality and ease of access to their loft.

Client Testimonial:

"The loft boarding was a game-changer for our family! We can now store all our seasonal items and much more without worrying about cluttering up the house. CB Lofts did a fantastic job, and we're so pleased with the results!" – Sarah & James R.

Loft Transformed with Insulation & Boarding for Energy Efficiency

Loft Transformed with Insulation & Boarding for Energy Efficiency

Client Overview:

A couple in a 1920s semi-detached home wanted to improve the energy efficiency of their house. They noticed drafts in the winter and high energy bills, especially from the loft, which was poorly insulated and not boarded.

The Challenge:

The loft was uninsulated, making it a major source of heat loss during the colder months.  Additionally, the space was unorganised and inaccessible, which meant that the couple couldn't utilise it effectively for storage or any potential living space.

Our Solution:

CB Lofts carried out a comprehensive loft insulation and boarding project. We removed old,  ineƯicient insulation and replaced it with high-performance materials. Afterwards, we boarded the loft and installed a new ladder and hatch to make the space fully accessible and functional.

The Result:

The couple noticed an immediate improvement in their home's comfort and energy efficiency.  The loft is now properly insulated, keeping the home warm in winter and cool in summer. The new boarding provides them with valuable storage space, and they've seen a significant reduction in their energy bills.

Client Testimonial:

"The team at CB Lofts did an incredible job. Not only is our home much warmer, but we now have extra storage that we didn't have before. The entire process was smooth, and the results speak for themselves. We wish we'd done this sooner!" – Emma & Daniel W.

Loft Boarding & Ladder Installation for a Rental Property

Loft Boarding & Ladder Installation for a Rental Property

Client Overview:

A property owner with a rental home was looking to upgrade the loft space in order to maximise its storage potential for tenants. The existing access to the loft was inadequate, and the space  was underutilised

The Challenge:

The existing loft was difficult to access, and the boarding was either incomplete or missing in some areas. As the property was a rental, the landlord wanted to ensure that the space was safe, accessible, and attractive to potential tenants, all while keeping costs reasonable.

Our Solution:

CB Lofts installed high-quality loft boarding throughout the space, ensuring even weight distribution and stability for storage. We also installed a robust, foldable ladder system,  providing tenants with easy access to the loft. The new hatch was fitted with a seal to improve energy efficiency and prevent drafts.

The Result:

The property owner is now able to offer the loft as additional storage space for tenants, which has been a major selling point. The new ladder system and fully boarded loft make it much easier for tenants to use the space, contributing to higher tenant satisfaction and fewer vacancies.

Client Testimonial:

"CB Lofts did a fantastic job of upgrading the loft space in my rental property. The tenants love the extra storage, and it's made a big difference in the overall appeal of the home. I'm very happy with the service!" – Mark T.

    Loft Boarding Company FAQs

How to convert a loft for storage?

Converting your loft into a practical storage space requires careful planning. While the process can vary depending on your specific loft’s condition and your storage needs, here’s a general overview:

Assess and Prepare: The first step is a thorough assessment of your loft’s current state. This includes checking the structural integrity of the floor joists, ensuring adequate insulation and ventilation, and clearing out any existing debris or clutter.

Boarding: Installing loft boarding creates a sturdy, level surface for storing items safely. We’ll recommend the best boarding type and layout for your needs, considering factors like weight distribution and access requirements.

Additional Considerations: Depending on your needs, you might also consider features like ladders, lighting, or even installing a loft hatch for improved access and insulation.

    What is loft boarding?

Loft boarding creates a sturdy, level floor in your attic, transforming unused space into a practical area for storage or other purposes. This is achieved by securely fixing boards, typically made from P5 caberfloor chipboards, across the existing joists.

New builds, in particular, require careful attention to ensure loft boarding complies with NHBC warranty requirements. At CB Lofts, we specialise in raised loft boarding systems that meet these standards, utilising innovative loft legs to elevate the boards above the insulation.

Can you put things in an unboarded loft?

While it’s technically possible to store items in an unboarded loft, we don’t encourage it. Unboarded lofts present several risks:

    • Safety Hazards: Without a secure floor, there’s a high risk of falling through the ceiling joists, causing serious injury.
    • Damage to your home: Placing items directly on the joists can lead to cracks, warping, or even structural damage.
    • Difficulty accessing items: Navigating an unboarded loft is challenging and increases the risk of accidents.
    • Inefficient use of space: Without a level surface, you’ll struggle to maximise your loft’s storage potential.

Loft boarding provides a safe, sturdy platform for storage, making your loft more accessible and functional.

How much does it cost to board a loft for storage?

On average, loft boarding costs in the UK range from £55 per square metre for basic options to £80-£100 per square metre for raised loft systems. However, several factors can influence the final price for your project, including the size of your loft, the type of boarding you choose, and any additional services like ladder installation or insulation.

At CB Lofts, we believe in transparent pricing with no hidden fees. We’ll carefully assess your loft, discuss your storage needs, and provide a detailed, personalised quote to ensure you get the best value for your investment.

What's the difference between loft boarding and a full loft conversion?

Loft boarding and a full loft conversion both aim to make better use of your attic space, but they involve different purposes and processes.

Loft boarding primarily focuses on creating a safe, accessible storage area. It involves installing boards across your existing loft joists to provide a level, sturdy floor for storing items. While it can significantly improve your loft’s functionality, it doesn’t fundamentally change its structure or purpose.

A full loft conversion, on the other hand, transforms your loft into a habitable living space, such as a bedroom, office, or playroom. This involves significant structural alterations, including reinforcing the floor, adding insulation, installing windows and staircases, and meeting building regulations.
